Taking Nevada

Eminent domain, condemnation, infrastructure, and land-use regulation in the Silver State.

High Speed Railroad Back On . . . Track.

The long and tortuous history of high-speed rail in the United States just chugged forward a few inches.  The long-anticipated So. Cal. [Victorville (home of the Jackrabbits that aren’t from Long Beach Poly), specifically] to Vegas high-speed rail project has changed ownership, as reported by the Las Vegas Sun.

This step could unlock a fair amount of value in the surrounding land, assuming that the project actually moves forward this time.  As the transportation corridors through Nevada are improved, it seems likely that the attendant infrastructure needs will soar as well.  With the I-11 project slated to improve North-South travel, and now a renewed focus on East-West rail: Las Vegas’ historic status as a tourist draw has attracted over-sized transportation infrastructure that seems likely to anchor large logistics facilities in the region.  Very exciting stuff, assuming they actually get the trains out of the station.
