Shut Down Echoes

Planning a large public project can take years. Not simply because of the amount of work it takes to plan out and draw a design, but also because of the number of procedural steps each project must go through. Among the biggest steps in any large scale project is Environmental Review, which can take a few forms, depending on the estimated impact of the project.

When the government is smoothly sailing, review can be a lengthy but straightforward step. But, when the sailing is rough, this step can become a fairly large hurdle. Enter the Shut Down:

The Reno Gazette Journal is reporting that the recent government shut down has affirmatively delayed the review process for the Reno-Sparks Spaghetti Bowl project. Fortunately, at this juncture it does not appear that the acquisition and construction timelines have been delayed. But, this shut-down caused slowdown means that any shut-down on February 15, is likely to actually start impacting the pragmatics of the project.
